루마니아 김명수 선교사 소식 Eric Merchie's mission report in Romania

Buna ziua pe toti ... Greetings to you all,

Living as a couple ... and no ... I have no personal announcement to share with you.
Living as a couple was the subject of many sermons in my church and bible study groups over the last couple of months. I must admit that I didn't always feel addressed but I listened carefully to the personal testimonies of the many couples (young and old) of our church.

The primary reflection I made was: are we like chameleons? Do we really have to live under the same roof to really know someone?

During the month of June, I helped a friend from my church. He is still staying at my home for another few days, after which he will go back to his birthplace in northern Romania. I think I know him a bit now. But I realise that whether you meet someone a few times a week or live with that person under the same roof can make a real difference in terms of knowing him. It's far more difficult to play chameleon when you share a home as all one's shortcomings that can't be hidden, are manifest.

I have been living on my own for several years and realise I have manias. Making compromises is one of the items that came back in the testimonies of many couples.

I also consider my relationship with the Lord as one of a couple. Jesus has shown us his immense love by dying on the cross for us. "I have been crucified with Christ, and if I live it is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me. And if I now live in the flesh, I live in the faith of the Son of God, who loves me and who has given himself for me (Galatians 2, 20). Every day, facing the choices I have to make and in my behaviour with people around me I try to make decisions that cause my love for God to be manifested.

I pray that each of you may live with God in such a couple-relationship. Knowing God is not sufficient, neither is meeting him once a week, as the Bible tells us:

(Matthew 7, 21-25)
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."

(Acts 19, 15)
(One day) the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?"

Mid June I went to visit my parents in southern France. My aim was to stay for 4 days but due to strikes in the Walloon airports in Belgium I could not stay more than 2 days. I spent a precious time with my parents. My father’s health is much better now. Many thanks for all those who prayed for my father and family. I love fish and ate plenty there, every single day. My parents went to fish mussels ... very delicious, which I can't find in Romania. I tried to rest a bit but managed not to sleep a lot after all.

My physical strength and spirit are good. My bigger involvement in my new local church has been a real blessing to me. Though I don't find much time for sport, fortunately my weight is not increasing. I don't yet have to buy a bigger belt!.

One of my concerns this month is that I have to replace my minibus. In my previous letter I told you I would like to buy the car of my Romanian friend who is a pastor. Things have changed however as my minibus is really at the end of its life. I have had many problems with it recently, both with the motor and the electrical circuits. The frame looks like a Gruyere cheese. So I will have to buy a new minibus. Many among you have shared the desire to help me on a monthly basis, for which I am very grateful. The minibus will be a Renault Trafic Combi. Pray that I might still find another few people who would be willing to help me with 10 EUR/month during 4 years. A big thank you! Please also pray that my vehicle may still help me get through the summer as the delivery of the new one will still take another 3 months.

Here is an overview of my missionary activities in April, May and June. Pictures can be found on my website www.myungsoo.ro.

* For the first week of April I was in Belgium to celebrate the 70th and 75th birthdays of my parents and the 46th of my sister.

* 23 students went for a weekend to southern Romania to support 4 small local churches. We organised several activities for children, teenagers and youngsters. More and more teenagers are responding to our activities.

* I went for two days to the orphanage for young adults in Varadia to help prepare the wedding of two youngsters in this orphanage, Cordut and Floare. I also prepared the visit later in August of a group from the Belgian church in Herstal under the leadership of pastor Luc Salsac.

* I worked a lot with a friend on the renovation of our office. Just a few more licks of paint and it should soon be ready.

* Along with 7 youngsters from our church I helped to organised the wedding in the orphanage in Varadia. Pictures are on my website. It was a great wedding

* I went on a missionary tour to Oltenia with 24 students. It rained for three days, which made our work very hard. The villages in this region don't have hard roads and so kids did not come to us, so we had to go and pick them up one by one.

* our church Metanoia organised together with two other churches a one week conference for 350 pastors from all 4 corners of Romania, in the city of Sinai. The theme was: a contemporary church. I was responsible for the technical aspects. Most of the pastors really appreciated this initiative and proposed to have another conference next year. However, as in all events, there was also some stress, and problems, especially as the leader of the worship team was particularly difficult. He is the one who is staying at my place for the moment.

* The first week of June we travelled with a Californian band to Arad, Curtici, Oradea and Timisoara. We organized several concerts in public places and in churches. In Oradea 16 youngsters took a decision for Jesus.

* For one week I went to visit my parents in France. We had a nice time together. I am so happy to see that my father's health is so much better and that my parents can enjoy the sea in the South of France.

* We took part in a tournament in Brasov with the wheelchair basketball team. We won this national competition again, which made them all so happy. I was really struck by the excellent organisation. It was not only a sportive event but everyone felt part of a big family.
And then I spent one week preparing the activities of July and August. Below is an overview and also some prayer topics:

* one week camp for gypsy children (8-11 years) on a campsite in Tauti

* one week camp for gypsy teenagers (12-15 years) on a campsite in Tauti

* one week outreach with 40 youngsters in Oltenia

* one week in the orphanage for young adults in Varadia. Six people from the church in Herstal (Belgium), 1 Korean (Ana Choi from Seoul) and 2 Romanian youngsters (Lavi and Janina) will help

* one week music festival on the campsite in Tauti

* one week outreach with 60 youngsters in Oltenia

* one week camp with youngsters from my Metanoia church

A big thank you for praying for these activities.

On my website www.muyngsoo.ro you can find pictures of my activities.
I wish you all much cause to rejoice and pray that God may take part in each of those moments.

Your friend and servant,

Myung Soo.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (The Bible, Jeremiah 29 : 11-13 )
